Agribusiness & Energy
Agriculture—and the business of agriculture—has been
an integral part of Indiana’s economy since the nineteenth
century. Today the state’s agribusiness includes energy,
food processing and hardwoods, in addition to the corn and soybean
crops that cover its landscape. For decades, Bingham McHale’s
perceptive attorneys have provided innovative and knowledgeable
legal solutions to Indiana’s agricultural industry. This
includes long-standing service as counsel to the Indiana State
Poultry Association.
In recent years, Indiana has been identified as a promising home for green energy: recent wind turbine projects in Benton County and White County have added more than 600 MW of wind power to "the grid." Our Energy Team's renewable energy experience includes assisting alternative energy companies with their Indiana wind farm projects. The team understands that Indiana is a good source of wind power and offers an excellent "on ramp" to the electric grid.
Our attorneys are deeply connected to Indiana’s agricultural
community. We partner with local farmers and global suppliers,
such as Tyson Foods, Cargill, Wabash Valley, Farbest Foods and
Boarshead. We also help suppliers/wholesalers including Consolidated
Grain & Barge and Wabash Valley Produce achieve their strategic
business goals. Our services include:
- Contracts and vendor agreements;
- Merger, financing and purchase transactions;
- Environmental, utility and energy and fuels matters;
- Labor and employment issues;
- Commercial litigation;
- Real estate, property tax and construction matters;
- Intellectual property matters; and
- General corporate, creditor’s rights and regulatory matters.
