Energy
Bingham McHale
LLP understands that the world is going green, and we are at the
forefront of Indiana's legal community serving the alternative
energy markets.
Since wind turbines began rising over Indiana's landscape, Bingham
McHale has been "the legal power behind Indiana wind energy." Our firm has helped launch many wind farm projects.
Our wind energy experience includes serving as Indiana counsel
to project developers, and we have been lead local counsel on
several projects. Our services include:
- local zoning and land use
assistance
- permitting approvals
- negotiations with landowners and local
governments
- negotiation of economic development incentives
- negotiation
of power purchase and related agreements with service providers
- commercial lending and financing assistance
Our largest project, Fowler Ridge Wind Farm, was profiled recently in POWER Magazine, which noted that it will be among the largest wind farms in the world when the third phase is completed.

For decades, Bingham McHale has been serving public and private
utilities in Indiana. In 2006 and 2007 we leveraged our understanding
of the current energy and regulatory landscape to counsel to
Cardinal Ethanol—the only new "grass
roots" ethanol plant under construction or in operation in Indiana—regarding
various matters, including its more than $100,000,000 in contraction loan and
credit facilities from First National Bank of Omaha. We also have served as counsel
on two other ethanol projects across northern Indiana, providing development,
financing, construction and local government advice.
