Media
Law
Bingham McHale has one of the largest, most experienced and most
effective media law practices in Indiana.
The firm’s attorneys are general counsel for the Indiana
Broadcasters Association and have assisted the National Association
of Broadcasters, the Society of Professional Journalists and the
Hoosier State Press Association, as well as a number of television
and radio stations, networks, wire services, advertisers, newspapers
and publishers. We have represented these clients in litigation
involving defamation, invasion of privacy, access and open door
law issues and billboard advertising. We also defend individuals
and companies in rights of publicity cases.
We are responsive to our media clients, providing pre-publication
and pre-broadcast review of articles to ensure libel-free publication;
advice and representation with regard to retraction requests; responses
to subpoenas; and access to public records and open door law issues.
We also provide newsroom seminars to reporters and editors with
regard to a vast array of media-related issues, including defamation,
invasion of privacy, access and trademark and copyright issues.
We prepare the survey of Indiana law for the annual Media Law
Research Center's50-State Survey of current developments
in media privacy law.
In 2008, Bingham McHale was selected by the Society of Professional
Journalists to be the Indiana representative of its National Legal
Advocacy Network.
