Small businesses and tax-exempt organizations that employ low to moderate income workers may benefit from a new tax credit that was passed as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act legislation in March. The Act also allows employers to offer tax-free health coverage for children under the age of 27 and changed the tax rules to require plans providing dependent children coverage to make the coverage available until adult children reach the age of 26.

On Thursday, April 29, 2010 the DOL announced its plans to require employers to prepare and adopt compliance plans to address wage, safety and equal employment issues in the workplace. Regulations have not yet been drafted, but will apparently require employers to take additional steps to avoid and remedy violations. |
